Stress Weight

When I recently asked, "Is Stress Making You Fat?" in my Straight
Talk column, reader response was overwhelming. Given that 77
percent of women in menopause are considered to be either
overweight or obese, the editors were clear that first, this is our
issue, and second, we need to address it in a way that provides
real information and support for our readers. We decided to do a
series of articles that examine obesity in our community--where it
starts, how it affects us, what we can do about it. We begin this
month by sitting down with four of our readers--an office manager,
a university administrator, a doctor, a kindergarten teacher--and
Maya Surgii, a health editor, to discuss how weight has affected
their lives.

OFFICE MGR:
Stress Weight management has always been a
challenge for me. I grew up very chubby and remember being
teased. I went on my first diet in junior high school. Since then I've
been a classic yo-yo dieter. In my twenties, thirties and early
forties, I did a pretty good job of controlling my weight, even
during the years when I lived in Italy, where eating well is the
national passion. But when I returned to the States and became a
single, mom, I stopped exercising and once again started using
food to alleviate
stress. Over the past few years I've gained about
30 pounds. Late last year I announced in my message forum to
get my
stress weight under control and invited those who shared
a similar issue to join me in diet, exercise and supplementation
with
CortiDiet™. So far I've lost 25 pounds. That's my story. I'd
love to hear yours.

MAYA: My
stress weight problem started when I was in my mid-
twenties. I was working and I really wasn't exercising because I
just didn't have time. I woke up one day and found I had gone
from a size 12 to a size 18.

ADMINISTRATOR: I gained
stress weight when I had my second
daughter. I'm a single mother of two, so trying to find the time and
energy to go to the gym is really hard. I joined a gym, but I'm too
tired after work to go. And since I started my new job, I just sit
and snack all day long.

TEACHER:
Stress Weight didn't get to be an issue for me either
until I had my children. I got married and had three kids within four
years. I probably gained, over the course of four years, 75 pounds.

trademark should not be likely to cause confusion. [A]nyone is free to use the term in its primary, descriptive sense so long as such use does not lead to customer confusion as
